Great meeting last night - I got to see a bunch of folks I haven't seen in a while, and there was a ton of cool stuff in the auction.
So - what did ya get ? Anybody buy anything they especially love ?

I got 3 sets of fish with an eye towards the breeding initiative:

a) a nice pair of laetacara curviceps - cool dwarf cichlids that are not always easy to find.
b) a sweeeeet pair of fundalopanchax garnderi killies -- very big, and the male is wicked colorful
c) one male and 3 female red swordtails - they look more like velvet than brick red to me. The male has an excellent tail spike, looks like great stock.

I'm hoping the killies will start breeding fairly quickly - their definitely old enough.
I think the curviceps will need a little time - so I put them in an otherwise empty, extremely well planted 20g tank.
The swords - I think 2 of the females are already gravid, so there's a good chance of some fry soon. However, what I really want to do is cherry pick these for size and color, and work with them for a while.
Then I'm hoping to cross in some wild swords, and breed the offspring back to the pure reds.
Eventually I'm hoping to get some really nice big swords out of this - I'm quarantining them in a 10g tank for now, but I'll be setting up a 40g planted tank for them later and may use an outside tub in the summer for growout and color enhancement

Funny thing is - I wasn't looking to buy anything last night, I was just planning on hanging out and being social. But those killies and swords caught my eye, and the curviceps were too cheap to let go....

So what did YOU buy ?

I came home with some gorgeous kilesa. Put them in a tank with some others awaiting this morning when I'd set up a tank just for them. This morning I made it to the fish room just in time to see the last one get eaten!!

AAAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!

Whoever brought them to the auction — I'd like to talk. I've been wanting these guys for a while. This time I'll have a tank ready!

oooofff. that's rough.
If you have the lot # Eric can probably figure out who brought them.

I put my new killies in the tank I keep my cherry shrimp in, its been stable for years and has only a few small fish (micro rasboras) so I figured it would work til I setup a tank for the killies -- yesterday when I went to feed them, I couldn't find the male and the female looked like she had been roughed up, I'm not sure what happened but I think they may have beat on each other.

I think I can find that tonight. I'd really like to be able to get some more of these. But I will make sure to have a tank ready for them. I should have put them in with my cyp fry. Live and learn.

Fund the lot # 99. I hope I can get in touch with whoever brought those fish in. They are a fantastic little fish and I'm furious with myself for doing something so stupid!
