Has anyone else had problems with amecas being big fin nippers, especially with smaller fish? Ours shredded our betta and are now making jabs at the angelfish.

They have a rep to do that. Unfortunately they intimidated my cories and started harassing my angels too so I had to auction them off, of course not b4 the female had 25 healthy babies. I still have 3 of those left to re-home. I would get them outta your tank asap. They can be very aggressive, a little swordtail baby had a little fin rot and they made it worse and bullied him.

Some say they aren't that way at all but that hasn't been my experience.

Usually, the male attacks the other fish, but I've seen "catfights" between the females. They did a pretty good job of tearing each other up.

I think these female fights happen when there isn't enough food. I was away for a week and thats what happened when I came back. No one fed the fish for a week so they started attacking each other.

as an update, the amecas in my other tank have also started fin nipping. these are two separate populations, and i've seen both the males and females going at it. in my other tank, they're going after a female gold gourami, but in both tanks they seem to be mosty leaving the angelfish alone so far . . .
