BAS Visits the Nyanja Exhibit at The New England Aquarium
BAS Members were treated to a special free viewing of the New England Aquarium's new exhibit "Nyanja! Africa's Inland Sea" prior to the May 2000 meeting. The exhibit is located in the New England Aquarium's new west wing and hosts changing exhibits and is included in the regular price of admission.
The new exhibit features Lake Victoria and the large number of animal and plant species in and around this large lake. In addition to focusing on the large biodiversity, the exhibit also discussed the effects of the introduction of the non-native Nile Perch, water hyacinth and pollution upon the native populations of people and animals. The exhibits included a large selection of Cichlids - of great interest to the Cichlid-keepers in the group!
Other residents included birds, snakes, spiders and one very large Nile Crocodile!
Our thanks to Alan Ruben for taking time to take the following pictures.
